1. All Enrichment participants must fill out the PTA waiver at the end of this packet and either drop it off at the Enrichment Table (#3 below) or the PTA Drop Box (#4 below). One waiver per family. Lost your copy? Get another online at John Swett Elementary website/Community/PTA/Enrichment.

 

2. Online registration is offered for some classes. If so, websites info is in the class details in this packet.  Or…
 

3. Sign up at the Enrichment Sign Ups table set up in front of the school on either
                     Wednesday, September 5, before school (7:45am - 8:30am), or…
                     Friday, September 7, after school (2:30 - 3:15pm)


4. If you can't come to the Sign Up table or register online, return the PTA waiver to the PTA box in the JSE office, along with check made to vendor, no later than Friday 9/7.

Each 1 hour class includes yoga movement, intention setting, mindfulness discussion, guided meditation, and relaxation time. Students will learn how to control and manage their feelings, thoughts, and actions. Class ends with 10 minutes to reflect in students’ yoga journals, which prompt reflection on a variety of topics including happiness, self love, kindness, and more. Our hope is to encourage our yoga students to spread positivity and support to peers throughout campus.

 

Painting – Classic European Art – *NEW to JSE*

Registration: Painting with a Twist

In this class we will cover important European artist and basic impressionistic/ post-impressionistic techniques, and if your child doesn’t finish every piece, that’s OK! Painting with a Twist guarantees that any unfinished artwork done in our classes can be brought into our studio during our monthly S.O.S. classes and be completed, free of charge (sign-ups online)! All supplies are provided, including paint, brushes, aprons, easels and a 16”x20” or 10x30 canvas or screen for each project! Our acrylic paint is toxin free. We go through a new project every 2 weeks!  We look forward to having your child create with us.

Let your child be part of a successful Chess Academy. Chess Wizards is offering specifically designed classes that cater to all levels of chess ability. Chess Wizards is so popular with kids because of our unique structure. First, we let kids get the wiggles and giggles out with 10 minutes of free play and review of past taught topics. We then go right into the week's lessons. We separate students based on skill levels and teach different lessons best suited to their individual needs. All lessons have an activity and homework to accompany them and we have well over 80 different lessons to keep challenging our little wizards! Chess has been taught for thousands of years because of its emphasis on logic, tactics and sportsmanship. Let us coach your kids to a higher level of education! Note: Class needs a minimum of 10 students to go forward.

Apply real-world concepts in physics, engineering, and architecture through engineer-designed projects such as Motorcycles, Aircraft Carriers, Conveyor Belts, and Rail Racers! Design and build as never before, and explore your craziest ideas in a supportive environment. There are no prerequisites for this course.

This fall "Nothing But Fun" will be taking adventurous students on and off campus to have NOTHING BUT FUN! Each Thursday, we will experience fun activities/interactive presentations on campus; or an off campus local excursion. Some excursions/activities may include:  Animal, Insect, and Reptile Presentations, Pizza Party at Nancy Boyd Park, visiting local businesses such as Ian's Yogurt, Contra Costa Cinemas, STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) activities, and more! Snacks and FUN always provided!  A detailed itinerary will be sent via email after sign ups. Tuition includes Nothing But Fun t-shirt/or fanny pack or other incredible Nothing But FUN paraphernalia, snacks, materials, entertainment, and travel fees. Text reminders will also be sent if the pick up location will be different than John Swett Elementary School.

This fall "Nothing But Fun" will be taking adventurous Nothing But FUN-FRIDAY NIGHTS!

If you are looking for adventures with Ms. Fischer from after school until the evening, this is the event for you! We will load up in a 15 passenger van and take off for adventures in the Bay Area! Adventures include: snacks, dinner, excursion fees, and FUN! Students will be picked up at JSE right after school at 2:35 PM or 3:00 PM for PM Kindergarten and have Nothing BUT FUN until 9:00 PM. Your child will be dropped off at your house between the hours of 9:00-9:45 PM. Door to door service! If your child needs a car seat, please bring it on the day of our event. Enrollment limited to the first 13 students for each Friday night. At registration please specify which session(s) you would like to attend:

Cooking ‘Round the World

The children will make weekly “visits” to countries around the world. They will cook and eat delicious food from the country of the day, learn a little language from that country and hear a folktale from that country. Yum and fun! The outcome is spectacular. Children are introduced to new foods, stretch their pallets, and become citizens of the world! Cooking Round the World is a nut free program. There are no tree nuts or peanuts in any recipe. After School Tutoring with JSE Teachers

Tuesdays and Thursdays 2:40 - 3:40pm

Class runs the whole session (9/18-12/13). Sign up for either Tue, Thu, or both (no class 10/30, 11/1 or 11/6 due to minimum days, or 11/20 and 11/22 due to Thanksgiving Break)

(Parents may pay for classes up front or in installments before class is attended.  The cost for all Tuesdays is $250. The cost for all Thursdays is $275.  The cost for all Tues & Thursdays is $525)

This class offers homework help and tutoring for math, reading, writing, and spelling with emphasis on Common Core and Bridges math. All teachers are experienced teachers and tutors that span all grade levels. Mrs. Stephanie Battles teaches third grade, Mrs. Kathryn Fischer teaches fourth grade, and Ms. Kyleigh Williams teaches fifth grade here at John Swett. Mrs. Sara Churchill is an experienced Martinez educator with a background in special education as well as teaching English learners. All of us are fun-loving, hard-working, compassionate and dedicated teachers that care about our students' success. We may send home a periodic message to the parents to let them know achievements, areas to work on and recommendations for continued help and support at home. All school materials that students should be working on including classwork and/or homework must come with the student every day. Extra material will be provided as additional help if needed. Students must be dedicated to coming to every session they have indicated on their sign-up sheet each week. Sessions are offered every Tuesday, every Thursday, or every Tuesday AND Thursday. There will be no "drop-in" or as-needed sessions. Payment is non-refundable. 

 

Toyology – Science Through Toys (by Sarah’s Science)

In these exciting hands-on science classes we will build a variety of toys and use them to demonstrate major scientific concepts such as energy, electricity, light, gravity, motion, friction, magnetism and simple machines. Each student will construct and take home a science toy in every class. The classes will be taught by our award-winning staff.

Students will get to experience a program where we use a variety of art supplies & techniques to help build their knowledge of art. Techniques taught in this class include Ceramics-Mosaics, Decoupage-Clay, Building, Canvas Painting, Drawing-Mixed Media, Fused Glass and more! Educating children on the importance of recycling and reusing is also part of the program. Instructor Becky Mellott will use her 20+ years of teaching experience to guide students through a variety of awesome art projects in which they can explore, create, and have fun.

YoGo4Kids presents Jump into the Jungle during Parent/Teacher Conference week!

1st through 5th grade students are invited to participate in a unique combination of breath-work, yoga poses/sequences, cooperative games and jungle themed crafts. Classes conclude with a resting posture and a wrap-up. All activities are designed to assist students in cultivating a heart of gratitude and joy. Yoga mats provided. Students will get to experience a program where we use a variety of art supplies & techniques to help build their knowledge of art. Educating children on the importance of recycling and reusing is also part of our program. I will use my 20+ years of teaching experience to guide them through a variety of awesome art projects in which they can explore create and have fun! During this one-week arts session during Parent-Teacher Conference Week, the structure of the class is 30 mins for lunch, then 60 mins of creative class time.
