Computer Lab

The Computer Lab at John Swett, thanks to the efforts of Lippow Development Company, JS PTA, JS Site Council and the Carey family, moved into a larger classroom in September 2002 and now houses 34 computers.  It is staffed by a Technology Specialist who is available during school hours.

Most classes come to the computer lab once a week for 30-60 minutes. The programs our students use daily are Lexia, Typing Pal, which is used 2-3 times per week, and various other educational sites.  Students also learn word processing with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Publisher applications.

In conjunction with the library, Accelerated Reader is in the lab, as well as all classrooms, for the students to take the quiz portion of this program.

Students have access to the internet where research is done for several grade level projects.  Internet safety and netiquette are strongly enforced.

Third, Fourth and Fifth grades have a complete set of Netbooks/Chromebooks that each student uses throughout the school year.  Each 3rd-5th grader has a Gmail account and works in their Google Drive almost daily.

K-2nd grades have the use of iPads, which are 1:1 in 1st and 2nd grades.
